Wednesday, 21 September, SHANGHAI (China): Russia, USA and Australia slugged it out in a thrilling final ten minute session in official qualifying, with Team Russia’s Roman Vandyshev setting the fastest time and will start tomorrow’s first of two twenty minute sprint races from pole position.
In the tightest qualifying session in the UIM H2O Nations Cup’s previous six outings just 3-100ths separated the top three, Vandyshev posting the fastest time of 43.69 around the 1800 metre four pin circuit on Dishui Lake, with American Jay Price taking second ahead of Australian Corey Davoll.
Each of the top three topped the times sheets over the three sessions, Davoll going quickest in Q1, Price on top in Q2 and Vandyshev at the top when it mattered most, with Team Germany’s Jorn Lassig fifth ahead of Mohammad Kadri.
There was disappointment for Team China with both Ni Haojun and Xiong Ziwei failing to make the cut in the first twenty minute session, with the ten quickest going through. The big name not to make it out of Q2 was Price’s teammate Scott Gillman, missing the cut by one place after posting the sixth best time.
The match race and both sprint races of the UIM H2O BUND Holding Group Nations Cup Grand Prix of Shanghai will be broadcast and streamed live on cuph2o.net
